Seven Coleman Stores and two partner stores in Newfoundland host Watermelon Queens.
On the east coast, Colemans Mount Pearl and Merrymeeting Rd plus our two partner stores, Bidgoods and Co-op in Clarenville received a visit from the 2016 USA National Watermelon Queen Miss Carla Penney the week of July 12 – 15. On the west coast Coleman Port-Aux Basques, Stephenville, Caribou Road, Deer Lake and Colemans at the Gardens received a visit from the 2016 USA Florida State Watermelon Queen Miss Katy-Mae Harrison during the week of July 19 – 22.
All stores did a super outstanding job on their watermelon displays and created lots of excitement for kids with watermelon eating contests and prizes. Customers of all ages love watermelon and are surprised to learn about its’ many health benefits.
Colemans has been involved with the Watermelon Promotion Board since 2007 and to date fifteen State and National Watermelon Queens have visited Newfoundland. Many of the Queens have never visited Canada so they are extremely excited to meet customers and staff with the end goal of promoting the sale of USA watermelons. The Queens are selected for their communication skills, academic standing, knowledge of the USA farming industry and their contribution to community.
